Today's Kabuki play at National Theater of Japan was related to the Yagyu clan, masters of the Shinkage school of fighting. The Yagyu clain is famous to be served as insturctors to the Tokugawa shoguns.
The play was not traditional Kabuki but like samurai dramas. We enjoyed it actually :-)
By the way, the main principal character, Yagyu Matajuro(cast: Onoe Kikugoro), existed person, was famous not only for Shinkage school, but artificial teeth :-p. When the tomb of the Yaghu clain had been moved from Shitaya to Nerima, Jyubei was founded with maxillomandibular clackers. According to the dentistry study, his artificial teeth is one of the oldest existing one which remains without deterioration(Actually the oldest artificial teeth was founded in 1978 in Wakayama Prefecture. The nun who passed away in 1538 was founded with maxillary clacker only).
The most of the audience were middle-aged persons, the main generation who enjoys samurai dramas.
