Review
■ Tamasaburo's excellent play
Tamasaburo(Bando) is one of the top kabuki actors who specializes in female roles. He was not born in traditional Kabuki family but ex. school of Kabuki actor. It is really rare case for a person ex. schoool to make his rise to big box-office star. A son runs in a major Kabuki family is one of the requisite to be a star.
Tamasaburo played first role in "Ibaraki" and "Sannin Kichisa Tomoe no Shiranami".
In the former one, "Ibaraki", Tamasaburo acted the 2 roles, i.e. an elder lady "Machiba" and the demon "Ibaraki" - "Ibaraki" is disguised as "Machiba", and the highlight of this program is how "Ibaraki" shows its true nature from "Machiba".
Tamasaburo changed from "Machiba" to "Ibaraki" in an instant! Growing wide eyes and mouth(in red) + grim voice, Tamasaburo showed satanic features and Ibaraki's true nature.
Tamasaburo usually acts beautiful girl or gorgeous lady. As far as there is big difference between ordinary beautiful style and Ibaraki's stern one, Tamasaburo's performance benefited from comparison.
In the latter "Sannin Kichisa Tomoe no Shiranami", Tamasaburo acts Ojo-Kichisa(Kichisa the maiden). Ojo-Kichisa is in reality not a girl but a thief in distuise. I could not believe that Tamasaburo had never acted the role. Due to his well-rehearsed performance, Ojo-Kichisa looked Tamasaburo's one of the standard roles.
Incidentally, Shichinosuke(Nakamura) who acted Ojo-Kichisa at Asakusa auditorium in January took the role of Otose, streetwalker(Otose is grabbed the money by Ojo-Kichisa). It is a fun to see such costar in Kabuki, too.
■ Lawless area - Makumi-seki
I was discouraged by the attitude of audience at Makumi-seki. Makumi-seki is like gallery. People buy the tickets only for the plays which they would like to see. Sometimes, there are rowdy audience at Makumi-seki. I feel bad, but it is still OK. Today's audience took a photo with photoflash during act. A lot of other audience, including us, were surprised at bad manner. Kabuki-za always calls attention not to take a photo during act. I trust Kabuki is not the place to take a photo but enjoy the performance of the actors and atmosphere...
<Today's lunch>
seasonal rice was with rape blossoms while one of the side dish was cooked Japanese butterbur. The early spring comes:-)
